Finbar is the fifth son of Lord Colum of Sevenwaters by his first wife, Niamh.
Finbar is a pivotal character in the Sevenwaters Trilogy, and is also seen in the fifth book of the series, Seer of Sevenwaters.
Finbar first appears in Daughter of the Forest and is the protagonist Sorcha's closest brother. They share a mental bond similar to telepathy, which includes transferring thoughts and mental pictures directly into each others minds. The relationship between these two characters shapes the personality of Sorcha and lends substance to the story.
Finbar is blessed and cursed with the gift of Sight. The abilities this gift provides him are debatable among fans, but it is agreed that the Sight provides Finbar with the ability to see images of a possible future, past and or present.
Finbar appears in later books largely as a type of mentor - he provides information, consolation and advice to the protagonists of these books.
He is killed by Lady Oonagh during the final battle for the Islands.
